What is Enhanced Rock Weathering?
For millions of years CO₂ has combined with rainwater to form dilute acid that reacts with mountains and rocks. This natural process traps CO₂ in the soil and gets transported to the oceans, where it's stored for 10,000+ years.
At Alt Carbon, we accelerate this process by spreading Hari Mati (a proprietary combination of organic inputs and silicate-rich amendments) on agricultural land, (which also helps increase the yield) enabling CO₂ to be mineralized and permanently locked away swiftly and at scale, offering a powerful solution for long-term carbon dioxide removal.

Why Darjeeling?
The first phase of our project is in Darjeeling — where we're witnessing some of the highest weathering rates in the world. Darjeeling's famed tea estates are crumbling because of climate change. Our project aims to revive the land of the world's greatest tea.
